📋ChangelogAs we approach Kenmei’s sixth anniversary, I realised the homepage has also been updated 5 years ago—with only a quick tweak when Premium launched. I’ve felt for a while now that it looked too basic and didn't highlight the many features we’ve added over the last half-decade.
With that in mind, I hired a designer for a complete refresh, and I think it turned out fantastic. The new page finally tells Kenmei’s full story, spotlighting our three pillars—Tracking, Discovery, and Social—in a clean, modern layout.
Although the redesign is aimed mainly at people who haven’t joined Kenmei yet, I’d love for you to check it out. I think this design should serve us well for another 5 years if not more!
On the functionality side, we’ve expanded our automatic source retrieval beyond scanlation sites to include official sites as well. This takes us a big step closer to a future where you never have to suggest a series manually—Kenmei will gather everything automatically from every supported site.
Data Moderation team has already back-filled hundreds of previously missing official sources, so we’re now fully in sync. If a title is on Tapas, Tappytoon, or any other supported official site, you can count on it appearing in Kenmei as soon as it is released.
This month I also wanted to focus more on bugs than features. I’m quite happy to have fixed some critical issues, such as friend requests not appearing properly or links not working correctly for certain usernames.
It’s hard to quantify, but I’ve had a chance to do quite a bit of general refactoring as part of this work, as well as expand test coverage (which is now over 90%—pretty impressive for a project of this size).
It has been a really good month, as I have done most of the things I've set out to do. It's been awhile since I hit 75% completion on the sprint. And as promised, the landing page has been finished, and I’m very excited to see how it performs.
Next is continuing to improve the experience for new joiners—mainly by working on the new onboarding experience. If I’m able to finish it quickly, I might start exploring importing again, as it remains one of the main reasons new members don’t fully switch to using Kenmei.
Do keep an eye out - I'll try to ship some nice surprise QoL improvements for everyone already using Kenmei, as I know I've been mostly focusing on improving experience for new members, so don't want to keep you all hanging!
