Overview of all the new features and improvements that come with the new Quick Search
Search from anywhere
First of all, let's take a look at how to get to Quick Search. Previously, you could only search and add series from your Dashboard, but now you have a handy search icon in the navigation bar, allowing you to add series anywhere on Kenmei.
While it might not feel super important, considering the few pages Kenmei has -> After Discovery and Social features are released, there will be a lot more pages you could end up at, so having search handy anywhere is vital going forward!
You can now use Ctrl+K or CMD+K shortcuts on desktop that will open Quick Search anywhere as well. And with the addition of auto-focus, you can start searching for a title in seconds.
New and expanded interface
As can be seen, the UI is entirely different to the old search -> You will now see a cover preview, as well as handy information on how many chapters a series has and how many users are tracking a particular series. You will also now see series that you already have in your list
Moreover, you can quickly share a link or go to Series Details to get more information on the series (which will become more important in the near future). Do note, this is not currently possible on mobile but will be added in the near future
If you go ahead and press one of the results, you will see a familiar, but improved version of Add Entry. Apart from familiar options, you can now also add tags while you are adding a new entry, as well as get a better look at the cover for the series
A separate shoutout goes to the mobile interface -> you are going to see this new design paradigm in other places in the near future, such as Series Details v2.
Adding series by URL
Another long-requested feature, that was available in the earlier versions of Kenmei, is allowing to add a series by URL. Sometimes you might not be able to find the series by title or perhaps just want to quickly migrate to Kenmei and all you got is a link.
So now, you can simply paste in the URL to one of the supported sites and if the series exists in the database, you will be instantly provided with the series, so you can quickly add it to your Dashboard.
Of course, if the series hasn't been added yet to Kenmei, you'll get an option to suggest this series, just like before.
Future of Quick Search
Of course, as with anything else, this feature will receive future improvements. I am not sure if there is a need for a v3, as I'd like to keep this Search only with the most important information (hence Quick Search) while more comprehensive search capabilities will be found in Advanced Search (currently part of Early Access).
But here are some of the likely improvements:
Provide the ability to Edit Entry for series already in your list
Provide other important information, when it becomes available (e.g. genres, rating, author)
Add animations to make it look even better
Make auto-focus more stable and fully cross-platform
