May

The first month of working on Kenmei full-time brings the long-awaited Quick Search v2 as well as lots of other improvements

Welcome to the first update since I started working on Kenmei full-time. If you've missed the news, you can find all about it in the special monthly update edition, from last month ->

When it comes to May, it's been a great experience. Being able to work from morning till night on Kenmei is truly a dream come true, and it has been as good as I've imagined. I've managed to finish Quick Search v2, which I've been really excited about for a while now. Of course, there were plenty of other updates, so keep on reading to find out more ->

The start of the show this month is the new Quick Search, and I am quite happy with how it turned out. It incorporates various suggestions asked for a long time, like adding series by URL or adding tags as you add a new entry. There are too many things to list and showcase, so it's time for another Feature Deep Dive.

Come on in and check out everything about Quick Search v2 ->

I've added a new official source, Comikey, to increase Kenmei coverage of manga, as manhwa has been dominating so far. Comikey does provide manga, manhwa and manhua content, but primarily has been focusing on manga - you'll find such amazing series like Kengan Ashura, Volundo, Record of Ragnarok and more there.

I plan to continue adding official sites for the foreseeable future - there are 10 in the backlog and I am likely to add Azuki next, to continue expanding the number of official manga sites supported on Kenmei, to balance out manhwa content.

Above is the overview of the progress this month. Quick Search v2 took a lot longer (and why there are periods of stagnation and a quick jump at the end), meaning I underestimated the scope, but velocity should improve as I get better at estimating my own work.

With that in mind, I will aim for a similar amount of work next month and see how it goes -> the plan is to continue releasing at least one major feature every month while adding lots of smaller improvements and bug fixes at the same time.

For June, I plan to finish working on Series Details v2, in addition to starting to roll out new data points (genres and descriptions first). With that out of the way, I'd like to finish working on Discovery to try and release it out of Early Access as soon as possible, but while it might not happen in July, I am confident by the end of summer it will be completed.

So here is the list of priorities:

  1. Series Details v2 + Expanding data

  2. Discovery Improvements

  3. Search Engine v2

  4. Importing from MAL, Anilist and more
