3rd year Anniversary

On 14/07/2022, Kenmei turns 3 years old. Let's take a look at what has been done in the past year and also at some changes that I am rolling out very soon.

Last Year in a Nutshell

With us hitting 3rd year since Kenmei has been made, I wanted to take a quick look at all the achievements made in the past year. I made a similar report on our Discord server last January, but here are the updated stats:

  1. Now supporting 30 sites, up from 18 last year.

  2. While still fluctuating, we've had up to 3000 members join Kenmei in a month, going from an average of 250 a month to ~1000.

  3. Kenmei went from tracking 18397 series, to 26748. But more importantly, there are now 716312 tracked entries, up from 180000+ last year - that's 4x growth!

  4. Tripled Discord members, from 1500 to 4600+

I've also launched countless new features and improvements. These are only a snippet of everything I've worked on the past year, the full details of which you can always find over in the Changelog or individual Monthly Updates ->

📋Changelog

Nevertheless, here are some of the highlight features:

  1. Chapters v2 launched last August

  2. Admin Dashboard, crucial to the future of the platform, launched in August

  3. Front-end overhaul in September

  4. Search Overhaul, with massive speedup and alt titles search in January

  5. Kenmei Series pages, albeit still an experimental feature, launched in February

The year ahead is going to be even more exciting - the Discovery functionality will dawn a new chapter for Kenmei, with lots of new, exciting features launching as a result, which I can't wait for all of you to see and use. I am only getting started!

Graduating from Alpha into Beta

As many have mentioned, Kenmei has for the longest time now felt more than just an Alpha app. I have high standards, so I didn't feel like I was ready to move into Beta, until now.

With foundations being well established and with me having started to move into the next phase - Discovery and more generally curating content directly, instead of just aggregating data across supported sites - I think it's time for us to move into Beta. This also brings us closer to being a more direct competitor to sites like Anilist, MangaUpdates, MyAnimeList and others.

With that in mind, all documentation on the site will mention Beta instead of Alpha going forward and the landing page had a slight update to match. You should use that classification when talking with others, whether it's on Discord or anywhere else on the interwebs.

Countless things are left to be finished and we are still years away from what I would call a full release, but I am super excited about this transition and where Kenmei is now with all its features. I look forward to seeing where we'll be in another year's time - and I hope you'll still be around to witness it with me!

Thank you

Finally, I would like to once again thank everyone who has been on this journey from the start or joined in the past year. Kenmei wouldn't have been where it is today without your support and enthusiasm for the app. I am extremely grateful for all the support you've given me and will continue to build the best possible tracker, to meet all of your expectations!
