April

Welcome to the new series of updates. This new subset will concentrate on general month to month progress reports.

Now that we are past the early days of the project, new features on average are more complex and might take weeks or even months to release. I usually try to work on a couple of smaller and easier features, in addition to one big piece of functionality. But even then, it might take me more than a month to release something noticeable (even though a lot could change behind the scenes).

With that in mind, I had a conundrum → what to do with the usual updates. I didn't have any new features, but I didn't want to keep silent, as everyone might think the project is on hold or died (to re-assure, I don't expect that to happen unless life gets in the way). If you've used Patreon before, you will be familiar with projects, that might be silent for months, leaving you wondering. I want to avoid that.

Hence, after running a small poll on our Discord, majority has voted for me to start releasing progress reports every month, as well as feature updates. This way, I can keep you in the loop on the progress in regards to the roadmap, even if no new features have shipped. While still providing detailed explanations on new features that I release.

Progress Overview

I've posted a list of features I planned to concentrate on in April, so I would like to show approximate completion percentage of those first:

  1. Ability to set reading status for manga entries (Reading, On-hold, etc) → 60% Complete

  2. Ability to set tags (Manga lists will become tags instead) → 40% Complete

  3. Ability to choose title type globally (English or Romaji) → 0% Complete

  4. Filtering → 80% Complete

  5. Adding basic user settings page → 50% Complete

  6. Improving data consistency in the database → 70% Complete

Honestly, the speed of progress has been much worse than usual. I will confess that Coronavirus has affected my productivity levels drastically. I am not very good at working from home, so I always go to my office or a coffee shop for focused work. As this became impossible, I had to make do with my home. While I got a decent setup going, I am still operating at a lower capacity than usual. For that I apologise and I will keep on working hard, to do as much as humanly possible in current conditions.

May Roadmap

I plan to continue working on features mentioned above, unless something else urgent comes up.

And such a thing did come up - Leviatan Scans is currently down, due to their new DDoS security measures, that makes it impossible to get the latest data. Because of that, you won't be able to get new chapter releases or add new manga from their site. Unfortunately, the fix is not trial at all and I am unsure how long it will take to fix.

The good part, is that due to the cross-site nature of Kenmei, you should be able to transition to a new source. Press on the Edit button for manga that you tracked with Leviatan Scans and you might discover there is a different site that has it.

Hope this update has been informational. I expect to have a new Feature Update by the end of this month, so I'll chat with you then 👋🏻
