Update #6

Firstly, I am very happy to announce that you are now able to both mark chapters as read (for now, use the latest released as the last read) and you can also see a nice indicator for series, that has a new chapter released, after the one you read previously.

Two notes on this new functionality:

  1. For series, you've imported from Trackr.moe, you have to update these entries to get the latest release indicator working. This is because those imports contain a simple string for the chapter, so it doesn't actually know what's your latest read chapter is. I plan to update the import functionality to make sure those are imported correctly, but for now, if you don't want to update all of them manually, you can just start with a couple and wait for the importer update

  2. I don't let you update the last read for series that don't have any latest released chapters available. That would be those MangaDex series that had all chapters pulled from the site. I will, of course, add a feature in the future, to manually add a chapter of your choosing, so you can still keep the record for yourself.

Secondly, I've updated the logic for retrieving the latest chapter information. As some of you might have noticed, it wouldn't always match the correct last chapter on MangaDex. That was because I was just using the latest released time, instead of using the actual chapter order. That has been now fixed (although there might still be some exceptions, please let me know if you see any).

With these updates, we've got the minimal functionality to actually use this daily for tracking MangaDex series. With that in mind, I decided to pause the MDList import functionality and spend more time improving the core experience. More error handling, faster import, better support for large lists (I know some of you have enormous lists, which probably not behaving very smoothly right now).

I'll let you go and check it out for yourself now. I am really excited to see you all start using the website, although I know we are still a long way away from matching all of the Trackr.moe functionality.

Here is the updated list from the last email, with new items mentioned above:

  1. Add tracking of currently read chapters and pull the latest chapter periodically (At this point, you should be able to use the website as intended)

  2. ​Finishing authentication features (automatic confirmation, reset password)

  3. Resolving all the reported bugs

  4. Improve handling of MangaDex exceptions (Timeouts, Database under load, etc)

  5. Speed up Trackr.moe import

  6. Add pagination to the lists

  7. Add the ability to import from MangaDex itself.

  8. Updating landing page to look more presentable.

  9. Search and filters
