Update #10

There has been a bit of a surge of newsletter sign-ups, and to my surprise, I kept on hearing people didn't know registrations were open. It was partly because of the landing page still saying registrations are not yet open and partly because Sign In wasn't clear enough that you can Sign Up after clicking on it.

With that in mind, I've updated the newsletter signup text, but most importantly I have improved the Sign In/Up process. The Navigation bar now shows a more obvious Register button, which goes directly to the registration. You will also notice that both sign in and sign up are both shown on the page you are on, instead of redirecting you to a new page.

The bulk of time has gone into finishing preparations to introduce new manga sources. I have continued to improve the underlying tech, which has made MangaDex updates more stable and able to re-run correctly if there was a failure (Previously it would re-run, but not with the manga series that failed). MangaDex updates now also average to seconds instead of minutes. With that, I have reduced checking for new MangaDex uploads to every 30 minutes, instead of every hour. If that works as intended, I plan to check for updates even more frequently!

On the downside though, there is currently a bit of a slowdown due to the new data structure. It shouldn't be very noticeable, but its something I'd like to improve asap, except its not very straightforward. So for now, I am concentrating on the addition of new manga sources and will come back to performance later. Do let me know if manga list loading is way too slow for you.

While I was planning to make Webtoons and MangaStream working first, the former is a bit more complex and the latter, if you didn't know, shut down the other week... Truly an end of an era. With that in mind, I am going for a simpler, but still beloved source: Jamini's Box. I know you all want to read new Solo Leveling chapters as they come out! I plan to finish adding it in another week or two.

I've also finally finished working on MangaDex importer. Due to how long it takes to import, this will happen in the background and you'll receive an email when the import is completed, with information on how many series have been imported and how many have failed, if any. If there is nothing to import or your list is not public, you'll get an appropriate email as well!

And finally, I fixed the bug where after you've filtered your manga - moving, deleting or setting last read status, changes would not show up, unless you refresh the page. This problem is gone now and I also removed the loading animation while at it. I'd like to introduce a nicer animation in the future.

I hope you will enjoy all the new updates! After Jaimini's Box, I'll be moving onto adding WebToons and MangaKakalot support and fixing other bits and pieces, like performance and general code quality, before adding other big features.

Enjoy the NY parties and see you in 2020!
