Addressing bugs and issues as a result of adding MangaHub support and improved system of storing chapter information

This month I ended up cleaning up and addressing issues that came out from the massive update from last month. MangaHub introduced excessive duplication, Leviatan Scans and Sleeping Knight made a sudden move to a different platform and finally new chapters setup needed cleaning up

β€‹β€‹πŸ”MangaHub duplicates + Admin Panel

Those of you who started using MangaHub, probably have noticed that it has a lot of duplicates, as a result often not correctly grouping on Kenmei. This became a big problem, which I had to focus on this past month. Here an example of that problem:

That involved re-thinking how I track series per each site and most importantly, I had to re-prioritise working on the Admin Panel, which will eventually be used by volunteers to help me keep Kenmei data in its best shape. But short-term, it will help me fix all the duplication with MangaHub and match the number of series that we have on MangaDex.

I am still a week or two away from finishing all of this work, but if you have reported duplicates on MangaHub, you should hopefully see those resolved quite soon.

β€‹β€‹πŸ“ŠKenmei Dashboard Poll Results

Due to this month being low on features to discuss, instead, I'd like to finally share the results of the poll that I ran in January - February. If you are interested, go ahead and check it out here:

πŸ’°Kenmei Premium (and current alternative)

As many of you know, one of the biggest focuses at the moment is to launch Kenmei Premium. As the site grows and to let me build bigger and more ambitious features, I need a way to keep it sustainable. Which is why I've been working on Kenmei Premium, where for contributing to the site, you will be able to get access to extra features. But you can rest assured most of the site will be forever free

While Premium itself is still ways away and I will share more details closer to the launch, I wanted to mention there is an alternative way to support the site. If you donate on Ko-fi, you will get access to a special role on Discord. Moreover, anything donated on Ko-fi will go towards your Kenmei account, when Premium launches. So you won't miss out on anything, if you decide to donate now, rather than when Premium launches.

Anyways, if you are feeling generous, you can donate here: https://ko-fi.com/kenmei. Afterwards, just let me know on Discord and I will assign you the role.

β€‹β€‹πŸ“ˆProgress Overview

As mentioned, most of this month has been behind the scenes clean-up and it's still not over. My main priority continues to be with getting systems set up to address all the duplicates, now as well as going forward.

I am also removing the % from my monthly breakdowns, as those numbers were rarely accurate. Going forward, I will simply highlight what I am trying to focus on, in the coming month. But, as usual, there will be things I work on, which are not included in this list.

As for the breakdown, here it is:

  1. Admin control panel

  2. Kenmei Premium

  3. Migrating remaining UI components to use the new design

  4. Adding new sources (~10 planned for April)

Catch you all in the next one β€‹πŸ‘‹
