Update #13

Welcome back to another update!

First of all, I wanted to welcome all the new users that have been signing up in the last few days. Those of you who weren't aware, Kenmei has been mentioned on KKJ Scans Discord and brought in most users since Kenmei inception. It's really exciting to see all of you signing up and I hope you enjoy using Kenmei.

Those of you who haven't heard of KKJ Scans, check out their Discord and/or MangaDex page, to chat with an awesome community and of course read manga they scanlate.

Finally, I wanted to remind everyone that there are various ways you can contact me. We've got official Discord server and Twitter, and of course you can always send me an email to hi@kenmei.co with any suggestions or bug reports.

UI Updates

For the past month, I've almost exclusively concentrated on UI improvements, which I'll be talking about here. You can check the rest of the changes in the updated changelog

📋Changelog

New landing page

Biggest and most noticeable improvement, is of course the new landing page. Original one was done in less than a day, to help Trackr.moe refugees to quickly sign up for the email updates. The new landing page on the other hand present Kenmei for what it is, regardless of whatever someone is coming from Trackr.moe or elsewhere. I think it turned out great, but it's still work in progress. With new features and UI updates, I'll continue to update it to reflect everything Kenmei has to offer.

If you haven't seen it yet, check it out here and please do let me know what you think!

New UI elements: modals, navigation and buttons

The way I've built previous UI elements, was not pixel perfect and not as mobile friendly, as it should have been. With a lot of the Kenmei foundations done, I started and will continue to refresh UI to be truly cross-device (for eventual rollout of a mobile app). These new elements also include dark theme variants, which has been a requested feature for a long time. It's not quite ready yet, but it's closer than ever, so keep an eye out.

I will continue to update the UI as we go forward. Biggest and most important part that really needs updating is the manga list itself. It's currently not mobile friendly, it's slow to load and has lots of other hidden issues. I really want to replace it as soon as possible, but that work will take time.

Upcoming work

With the focus being on UI this month, I am shifting gears again back to do a lot of behind the scenes work, which will let me add some new manga list features. In no particular order, here is what I am planning to work on:

  1. Ability to set reading status for manga entries (Reading, On-hold, etc)

  2. Ability to set tags (Manga lists will become tags instead)

  3. Ability to choose title type globally (English or Romaji)

  4. Filtering (you will be able to filter by reading status, tags, authors, artists or manga sites)

  5. Adding basic user settings page (ability to update your email or delete account)

  6. Improving data consistency in the database, to improve matching of manga between sites

Thanks everyone for your continued support and look forward to all the upcoming features!

Stay safe and keep on reading manga!
